If you want to get your first client through freelance copywriting in 2020, you have to think outside the box.
Here is my 4-step process to finding clients and building your freelance copywriting business WITHOUT Fiverr or Upwork.
How to find clients
To find clients, you have to look for companies that are already invested into digital marketing campaigns, this means you will have warmer leads than if you just looked in the Yellow Pages for some clients, because they understand the value of copywriting.
What to write to get a potential client to respond
I break this down in the video to 3 simple steps. Step 1 is to write an interesting subject line, this will hook them in. Step 2 is to keep your email short + snappy, nobody wants to read a long boring email. Step 3 is to invite your client to a quick phone call, as it’s much more likely you will strike a chord with them on the phone.
How much do I charge a client?
Typically, I charge around £500 to £1000 for my standard service. This is because I feel that platforms like Fiverr or Upwork encourage sellers to undervalue their skills. Nike uses premium pricing to market their shoes at a higher price, leading customers to have a higher perceived value of the products.
How to “Snowball” your client base
I mainly use referrals to gain more clients, and it can be a good idea to run a referral scheme among your clients to encourage referrals. Try offering discounted services to get clients in the door, then let your results speak for themselves!
